Whit's Getting Fit is a food and fitness blog that journals Whitney's day to day approach to healthy eating and living well. Whit's posts are always entertaining and fun to read – her writing is energetic and motivating! It's easy to see that healthy living makes Whitney a happy-go-lucky kind of gal. I'm excited to share the thoughts of this charming young lady who not only makes healthy living look easy, but has made herself well known around the healthy living blogosphere today.

So Whit, let's get started. Tell us about your blogging background! How long have you been at this blogging gig?

Officially food blogging, I have been doing since late May, so six months? I actually started my blog back in March, but it was really lame and no one read it then. I have always loved to write though, and have had blogs off and on for years.

How did you first discover healthy living blogs?

I love all things fitness, so I googled something along the lines of 'fitness blogs' and it took me to an article where Oh She Glows was recommended. From then on I was hooked.

What inspired you to start Whit's Getting Fit?

I had gained about 20 extra pounds, and I was trying to get it off. I started with the Body for Life program and thought that a blog would help keep me on track. [That was when it was boring and no one read it.] I eventually fell off the Body for Life wagon and my blog sort of died. Then I found out about healthy living blogs and thought 'Hey! I could do that!' I've never looked back. I also ended up losing the extra weight! Win, win!

How much time do you spend on the blog each day?

I spend about 30 – 45 minutes of my lunch hour downloading pictures and doing a post, and then again at night. I say all in all I spend 1-2 hours a day on the blog. Now reading other blogs…well that's a different story!

Why do you think healthy living blogs appeal to so many readers?

They're addictive! You make 'friends' with these people and feel compelled to go check them out. i.e., It's 1 pm! Let's see what Alison had for lunch, and if the kids did something cute!

How many blogs do you follow regularly?

Ok, my google reader is packed to the wazoo, because I don't just read healthy living blogs! I read fashion blogs, and mom blogs [yes!]…I read my pastor's blog. And his friend's blogs. I read local blogs. Officially in my reader I have 142 blogs! But try as I might I do not have the time to read all those, which is why I sort my reader out into folders. Must read, Entertainment, Local, etc. It's the best time management tool I've found yet!

Do you think it's important is it to be active in the healthy living blogging community?

I do. I think it's important to let people know about you and form friendships with fellow bloggers. It's important to have a 'personality' in the blog world, to help set you apart from the thousands of others with blogs just like yours.

What's one of the earliest lessons you've learned about blogging?

Comment! Comment, comment, comment! It helps bring readers to your blog, plus it helps form those friendships that we all love to have. And it's just fun to leave your two cents on someone else's post. Of course, having said that, I don't comment quite as much as I used to. Life gets in the way sometimes.

What advice would you give to a blogger who's just starting out?

Find out what makes you different and focus on that. Stand out!

Has blogging changed you?

Yes in fact it has. Growing up I was a rather shy, introverted person. Through blogging, I have sort of found my 'mojo', if you will, and in the meantime lost the shyness.

If you could choose between the ability to read minds or the power to see the future, which would you pick? (Yes, my final and fun question is totally in honor of New Moon!)

OH GOODNESS! Do I choose to be Edward, or Alice? I am going to choose see the future, because not only does Alice have a cute pixie cut to die for; I wouldn't want to know what others were thinking about me at that very moment. Sometimes the truth is better left unsaid!

If you do ever get to see the future, come find me. I want to talk lotto numbers. Unless of course you see that me winning the lotto isn't a good thing. In that case – never mind.

Is there anything that you're currently working on, like a project or something you might like share with us?

I don't have anything currently, but I'd like to mention Katie from Chocolate Covered Katie and her Operation Chocolate Covered Kindness charity project, I just think that is the greatest thing. She is so cool.
